The Grove - A Brief HistoryThe Salvation Army's work in Kelvin Grove started in 1991 as a new church initiative from The Salvation Army's Central church located in Church Street. This new work steadily grew under the leadership of a young officer couple, Glen and Jackie France, together with their family. A leadership change came in 1994 when officers Llew and Ann King arrived to further the ministry of what was now called "The Grove". Community events and ministries continued to impact the area and attract people to what is called a, "radical and cutting edge church!" The church and centre base was the Kelvin Grove Community Hall until 1997 when the doors were opened at our present purpose built location at 99-103 Kaimanawa Street. In 2003 officers David and Alison Moody were appointed to join "The Grove" family continuing to fulfil the purpose for which it was raised up. Another leadership change came in 2009 when Corps Leaders Byan and Selena Thomson arrived to take over and continue the ministry of "The Grove". |
